December 2024. The year ends, with kind of a let-down. But the world is still going around! Hope springs eternal!

About half the country is glad their guy won the election, the other half is bitterly disappointed. The future of women’s rights looks dark. The way the country is so sharply divided strikes me as rather Uranian. Uranus is the planet of extremes. But I won’t talk politics. We should focus on our own here and now. The holiday season is here and we should enjoy quality time with the ones we love. Do something nice for someone else. Don’t complain. Count your blessings.

Mars in Leo has moved into opposition to Pluto, which is now in Aquarius. Mars stations on December 6 and will retrograde during the winter into Cancer, stationing in February. Venus briefly crosses Pluto on December 7. There could be some romantic fireworks. In mid-April Mars will be back in Leo and the opposition again. This extended opposition is bound to have a powerful, prolonged effect, both personally and in the greater scheme of things. It could pass quietly by with nothing more than a bad mood. Or, there will be confrontations, obstructions from authority, cruelty, violence, and struggles for power and control. Wait and see what the effect will be in Washington, with the transition of power since the election. Trump is already having trouble pushing through his cabinet nominations.

At the same time, Jupiter is squaring Saturn and will continue in this pattern for a while. This is the push-me-pull-you effect. On December 12-14 the Sagittarius Sun will pass by and form a T-square. That could be interesting. For some people, false starts, depending on what you are trying to accomplish.

From December 2014, a recap of the Winter Solstice: This falls on or close to December 22 every year with the Sun’s entry into Capricorn. Shadows are longer, the sun is low in the sky and we have the least amount of sunlight on this day. We wake up in the dark, and it’s dark before dinner time. At November’s end, sundown is already before 4:30pm. This year, Venus is the evening star. At the same time you can see Venus, Jupiter is rising in the eastern sky. Close to Jupiter you can see Orion, Sirius the Dog Star and, on a clear night, the Pleiades.
